Sources for EP-00 grease?

I picked up a Lely Rotella power harrow for use on the local dirt racing track, and it needs some of the heavy oil/ grease for the big geartrain box, EP-00 seems to be the right juice. Even Amazon is $200 for a 5 gal pail of Chevron. Looks like Tractor Supply only carries a quart bottle "Cotton Picker Spindle Grease 00". Any thoughts? similar but not the same as Corn Head Grease

If it were mine I'd just stick corn head grease in there. Depending on the manufacturer, corn head grease is either 0 or 00. The box in a power harrow won't be picky enough to notice the difference: It's not as though it's a 8000 RPM, minimum clearance bearing assembly.

I'm with Daniel . WE used to mix up a concoction of gear oil and gun grease for the Cat rollers and idlers.Worked fine just had to stir it up in the gun before each use and add some more of both as it got empty. Now days I would just put cornhead grease in them if I needed new grease for them. I guess the newer ones use an oil in the track pins and must not be turn able or they reseal them when doing it. Most of the rollers are sealed now I believe just put a new one on for a ton of money. I would check the price between tractor dealer and locl oil distributor. I did that a few years ago and JD was cheaper than my local oil distributor for cornhead grease. By about a buck a tube. Deere will also probably have it in 5gallon and 15 gallon/120 LBS kegs as they call them. Depwneding n how much you need tubes might be the cheapest way to go and just push them out with the plunger to a grease gun with no top on it.

I agree with the other two!!! I have three gear boxes filled with corn head grease and no leaks to worry about, grease works great and is a lot cheaper than oil.

Corn Head grease is generally rated as NLGI 0, which is a bit thicker than the Cotton Picker spindle grease which is rated as NLGI 00. I don't think it will be an issue in the power harrow gearbox.

The Cotton Picker Spindle Grease 00 sold at TSC is not EP rated, per the manufacturer.

Emailed them a couple years back.

FWIW

Well cornheads get a bit of wiggle on the bearings and running with snow in the corn the seals rust the tin and then they leak setting . Why do tractors go to leaking setting ? Just get a set in them from the off season in the shed. That is part of why they leak. Also the shafts lay horizontal so are always about half in the oil.
