Spark Plug Sealant

Does any any use any type of sealant or thread treatment on their spark plugs? I am convinced my rough running is spark plug related and I intend to replace them this weekend - I figure since I am swapping plugs I might as well do it as right as possible.

Also, I am correct with a gap of .025 right? I purchased four new AL 147's - are these pre-gapped?

All spark plugs come with a metal gasket. Tighten until the gasket tightens and the 1/2 turn more. No other sealant is used. I use auto lite 437 spark plus in my fords. Always check and adjust gap if necessary.

I put a smidge of antisieze on the threads.

If you use anti-seize, be sure to use a darned small "smidge".

If any gets down to the tip of the sparkplugs, and gets "blasted" onto the porcelain insulators, your new plugs will be WORTHLESS.

I have seen several instances of that happening, the last was an IHC V-8 farm truck pulled over to mys op because the engine wouldn't run. He had over-done the anti-seize, which is powdered metal and graphite, and shorted out the plugs the first time he fired it up.

0.025 is the correct gap. I"ve always hand tightened my plugs on all my machines and then given them a half-turn with a wrench. I"d stay away from sealant.
