Thank you for the earlier help!
I have an update and follow up question for the 1954 700 series tractor I'm working on.
We brought the generator to the old generator repair guy (a true old expert) who replaced the insulator for the Field lug. He tested it and said the rest is good. We bought a new, correct type-B voltage regulator (ARM-FLD-BAT terminals), and I installed it all today.
Ammeter indicated draw when turned off. The tractor started and it showed strong negative draw as soon as engine started - like reversed generator polarity. It probably ran 5 to 10 seconds.
I realized had had not perform the generator polarity procedure. So I did this by removing the Field and Batt wires from the VR and momentarily touching them together with the engine turned off. I probably momentary touched them 5 or 6 times, and observed a small spark when separating them.
I reassembled the wires to the VR and when I started the tractor it now indicates no charging.
Did I destroy the ne VR? Is the new battery maybe just fully charged and not requiring amps?
I am stumped and could use some help!
Thanks guys!
