Speed vs Lower Gearing

I pull with an Allis WC. Its beefed up, pretty much a WD45 in a WC block. 28 inch rubber. Out east in this area, most of the pulls are either first gear only, or 3MPH speed limit. I have a lower geared RC rear end available. First gear with the WC is 2.5 MPH. With the RC rear, its 2 MPH. With the slow speeds we run, what's the opinion of what's going to generally give me the the longer pull- the half a mile extra MPH, or the lower geared RC rear?

if you keep your tires, you should have no trouble running 2.5mph with the wd45 motor. slower will hurt you unless you have some kind of CRAZY traction where you run out of steam at 2.5mph.

vics I am running 14.9 28's and deciding if i should go to a 38". why does it seem like everyone runs the 38"? did the allis' not come with the 28's for a reason?

I guess most had 28's because they were cheaper. My
WD45 I mess with has 14.9 X 28. My WC I pull with
sometimes has 14.9 X 38 Only reason is I want to be completive. My Little 435 JD came with 13.6 x28. I
generally run 18.4 X 34 full cut tires in the 3500
class when the rules let me. Or 14.9 X 38 top cut
when they will let me pull Farm Stock. I think the
10 in of diameter will give me at least 10 ft. Also
run as narrow as possible. Vic

i cant even remember when a tractor with anything but 38 in. won a pull in the class es i run in usap farmstock and southern il rules
