Speedy air compressor

Well I have this old compressor laying around but it is missed the motor to make it work. It is model #130.441. Dos any body have an idea of how big a motor it needs to make it work as it should?? The 1/3 hp one I have on it is enough to see if it works but not enough to do any thing more than that. It would be nice to have a smaller unit for some odd jobs.

Smaller as in how small? Single piston on a 10 gallon tank? Mine is a Flightway probably 40 years old with the 10 gallon tank and small single cylinder compressor and it has a 1/2 hp 3450 RPM motor on it, not fast but decent for pumping up tires, not big enough for a lot of air tools but will easly run a finnish nailer. Have it set for about 100# pressure. A 1750 motor would not handle it.

That is why I gave the model number and brand of it. It is a 2 cylinder job with no tank with it but if I get it set up I'll add a tank to it

A twin cylinder is probably going to require a 3hp or larger motor. I have one of the little upright HF compressors that runs on 120 volts, and has what they call a 3hp motor. I think it's a 20 or 25 gal. tank. I also have a Campbell Hausfeld 5hp V-twin on a 60 gal tank. The smaller one is good for rolling around, running an impact, and airing tires etc. For you to find out how well the compressor is going to work, you'll most likely need to have it on a tank, as most will need the reservoir to have enough to run much of anything. I'm not familiar with what you have, but will try to research it later.

I have a big unit that came out of an old service station many years ago for the big stuff. This is just an old one I have laying around that works well but has no motor so figure if it would not take much I would fix it up to use around the farm when I need a smaller unit

Why not belt it up on one of your 30 or so tractors. Or trailer mount in with a pto and a tank. Use your tractor, no elect needed ie take it anywhere a tractor can go. Just a thought.

I already have a compressor mounted under the hood of my 4X4 Chev so I have air where I do not have power. But that 350 Chev drinks the gas also which is what I do not want.

Can you elaborate on you under hood compressor? I've always wanted one of those. Is it a home made job? Storebought? Capacity? Let's have some details here!

It is a home made system uses a compressor form the old type AC units with the up right compressor. That in turn is plumbed into a tank on the back of the truck. It will pop off the pop off on the tank at around 150 psi it is a low CFM system but more then enough to run an impact for a short term or air up tractor tires which is very handy when loading a dead tractor that has flats. I'd say what the tank is but that would cause to many other problems

Is there a pressure switch that cycles the clutch on and off? I checked Ebay for truck brake compressors and found one was rated at 15.5 cfm @1250rpm. No pressure was given. That's some serious air! But none of them come with a clutch. I assume the compressor does not run continuously and needs a clutch, right?

The first truck I had it set up on I had a switch on the dash to turn it on and off. No pressure type switch in my system since it does not get used all that much and the pop off goes at 150psi and boy does it let you know you forgopt to turn it off. The set up I have on this truck uses a wire I hook up when I need air crud but works for what I need. A person could in fact hook up a pressure switch to turn it on and off but I use it so little I can not see spending the $40 or so to buy that switch

hey, i cant belive i found this and its not even a super old topic. i just picked up one of those exact compressors you have. its got the motor attached unfortionatly the plate on the side of the motor is imposible to read most of it the things i can make out are,

Volt 115
RPM 1XX (cant read those 2 numbers)

and thats it. i wish i could be of more help. but i have a question that brought me to this post. do you have any idea how to check the oil level on it and fill/drain the oil? i cant seem to find a drain or fill plug any ware on the thing...
