Splitting 8n - any recommended activities?

'49 8N, broke 2nd gear about a year ago, and I'm finally getting to fixing the thing. Is there anything I should definantly do while it's split? I think the clutch is ok, but I can probably confirm that from the look of it. The PTO seal is on my list, as it's leaked since I got the thing. I know that the lift would drop in maybe 10 minutes with the PTO off. Is there a way to check it without it running?

Replace the t/o and pilot bearings, trans
seal and gasket and have the clutch and
pressure plate rebuilt.

Use the main shaft as your clutch alignment
tool.

95% of lift dropping issues are in the top
cover; see tip # 13.

Clean up every thing while you're in there.

Engine, transmission and rear end stands are
a gift of God. I can not imagine rebuilding
the rear end of the A Model with out a
stand.

I got an engine stand for my first 8N
rebuild and got an adaptor for it when I
pulled the A Model engine.
