Splitting removing engine from a MF50A Backhoe

I am curious if anyone has experience splitting a 50a or general guidance. I need to pull the engine for what I think is a rod bearing issue. I have the service manual now and have read the engine removal section. It has procedures for with and without loader. I had planned to remove the 4 pins at the lifting arms and lift cylinders and leave the fixed frame in place. Is this do able. It looks like it? 2nd question, it says to remove the backhoe. Is this for safety and balance? If so I would think I can remove just the boom and leave the drive station and controls, does that sound right? The book make no reference on what to remove.

Last question for now - It says that with instant reverse you need to replace 2 engine to trans bolts with 5 inch guide bolts to avoid damage to convertor and pump. It makes no reference to the bolt size. Does anyone know or have a good guess? The machine is 225 miles away and I would like to get the guide bolts ahead of time.

Thanks I am sure I will be back with more questions as this project proceeds. Hopefully there are some 50a experts out there.

thanks for the info on bolt size. What is involved in removing the entire backhoe? there is nothing in the book about it.

Another user here just had to remove their backhoe and loader to do an in-frame rebuild on their MF30.

Dont know if its similar enough to your 50A to help, but wanted to share.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link. It led me down a path to find this video of the MF54 attachment and removal. Doesn't seem to bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BATl-VXFabw

I am in uk not that it makes any difference... some
time ago when I worked at local repair shop I
helped split an MF 50B to replace torque converter
The loader was raised and held up with timber the
back acter was lowered to ground also the jacks
No long bolts were used but the guys doing job had
plenty experience splitting tractors for renewing
clutch if I was doing another perhaps I would use
long bolts

If you had a clutch then they didn't say you needed the guides. The guides are using in the instant reverse with torque convertor.

I wish i had the space to just raise the bucket and split it but I don't think I can pull that off safely.
