Sprayer Pump Recommendation

I'm going to be building me a small sprayer with a hand gun to spray fruit trees. I've seen smaller spray units years ago with a Hypro twin piston pump on them. But now I see only roller pumps on sprayers. Which would you recommend or prefer? I myself prefer the twin piston pumps and of course they're more expensive but I'm ok with that. I'll be hooking the pump up direct drive to a small gas engine with a love joy coupling.

My roller pump will build 80 psi it?s 40 years old but when ever it?s not spraying it?s in a 5 gallon bucket of diesel

i have a hypro gas driven sprayer prolly what you are trying to build. mine is the twin piston. i will get some pictures and post them .those hypro pumps are spendy, they run about 700 or so. the pressure control unit is about 250 or so. here is a link to agri supply, they have a lot of hypro stuff

I think for a small sprayer a roller pump would be more than sufficient I?m running 25 foot booms and can put down 30 gallons to the acre with the nozzles I have now . Would that be enough for a heavy application of liquid nitrogen? No but for weed spray it?s way more than enough

Check the RPM of the engine you are considering, then check the recommended RPM of the roller pump. The pumps I have seen are made to run at PTO speed, way slower than a gas engine. Look for a centrifugal pump instead. I have one like this that provides way more GPM than I need for my sprayer with 50 foot booms and will provide the pressure I need plus the circulation inside the tank for mixing.

The current standard is the Bean R10 piston pump - up to 600 psi for pattern and reach with a hand gun -

note that the pump is run at ~600 rpm, which makes direct coupling to a small engine problematic -

A lot of differences between a low pressure field sprayer and one suitable for hand gunning trees.

anyway - you'll need a pressure regulator and a surge tank along with a screen with your build - easy to wrap $2500+ into those components using Bean brand pieces -

Not sure how much pressure a 12v pump makes. Neighbor has a small tank and 12v pump he got from RK on his ATV. He drives around to spray roundup.

We also have a 12 volt, 15 gallon sprayer that we use on an ATV, works great! You can adjust the nozzle to make it spray 20 feet or more. I also made a boom for it with 2 nozzles to spray rows.

Recently installed a Hypro pump on a friends spray rig powered by a 3.5 hp gas engine. It's pulley driven but produces plenty of pressure to shoot 30 feet. He uses an adjustable pressure relief to control pressure. You have the right idea of going Direct drive. Fewer problems. Check the link below.
