I found this manufacture and part number to suit the DC -4retrofit. The John Deere dealer eyes crossed when I asked him about the scraper springs for a John Deere 220 disc. As much as I try, when I stop by the John Deere dealership I always get the same thing, crossed eyes and dont have it.

Usually a needle nose pliers to hook and guide and a flat blade screw driver to push if room allows. When it's a tight area, I use a v groved blade screw driver and again a flat blade screw driver to push. Never as easy as one would think it should be, and with age I don't seem any smarter, just weaker. There's always the satisfaction of got that sucker when you're done.

Thanks for the spring info!
I usually use vice grips on all springs except for brakes. On them I use a brake spring tool

I think I used a trampoline spring to replace a break spring on a 400. I used a Philips screwdriver to stretch the spring, and a needle nose plyer's to guide the end of the spring into the hole.

Neat pliers! Here is what i've used a couple of times recently, hooked a ratchet strap to them for a 730 spring and a piece of #9 wire and Ben to hook center stand springs on the motorcycle the other day.It let me stretch the spring and then manipulate them into place as separate jobs.Pretty crude but it worked. Case clutch pedal spring 20 cent install tool.

Put end of spring in vice and bend spring over by hand.

Insert washers or pennies in the gaps.

Bend the other way and insert some more.

Spring is now long enough to install without the need to stretch it.

Depress clutch pedal and pick up the pennies.
