Spud ratchet?

Hello there. We found this unique ratchet. 19 mm on one side and 22 mm on the other. Both are 12 point socket. Any ideas?

Looks to be a red iron workers tool. In the USA that is a person that works on structural steel frames for buildings. The pointed end is used ofr aligning bolt holes for insertion of bolts in adjacent holes, then using the sockets to tighten them. jim

O the wonderful ability to research with google. I found out this tool is called a scaffold podger. I have never seen one before.

i say iron workers wrench. when up high u cant be looking for wrenches. it align the hole tighten the nut then the next beam is coming.

I have a few of them , yes they are called Podgers and are sometimes used by scaffolders but not exclusively .
Mostly they are used for errection of steel structures where holes need to be lined up . The few I have were left over from a party hire company that folded , they were used to assemble large marquees .
I find them invaluable , one I use exclusively for a hand winch handle , the pointed end for loosening the pin in shackles .

I should have mentioned the hole in the shank . It's for attaching a safety cord so that it can't be dropped and pierce some poor worker's skull . Even a hard hat wouldn't protect you from one of those points .

The last time I was in a TSC store I noticed a spud wrench they were selling. It was just like the one pictured above but up on the adjustable jaw, there was a scale like you see on a pair of vernier calipers. I guess you could dial in the wrench size to be exact. I thought this was very strange.

If it was made for erecting steel structures, it must have been made for use outside of north america.

Why is that?

Never seen metric nuts and bolts used for steel beams and columns
In buildings or industry hear in the USA.
Having direct engineering knowledge of airport terminal buildings and power plant buildings here in USA.

The business ends of the ones I have are interchangeable to a size below and above . The socket is held in by a circlip . It takes a few moments to switch from Metric to Imperial . Kingdick is a UK company based in Birmingham founded in 1856.

Woops. I was confused which wrench you were talking about. I'm old and BLONDE!

Kingdick.......
I have NOT crossed path with anyone who was aware of the Kingdick open end spanners.

Over my forty-year career, we owned and operated 18,000 HP Rolls Royce Spey Gas Turbines. (Aero Gas Turbines
converted to supply energy on a Natural Gas pipeline)
All OIL lines and fittings that carried Lube OIL from the Auxiliary Lube oil console to the Spey Gas Turbine had a set of Kingdick open end spanners. Eg. 34MM...50MM etc. All OIL connections on the main Lube Oil console were of an ORB design, that came with Kingdick spanners.
Gas Turbines came from Stratford England...

Not so rare down here Bob and still made to the very best standards .

I can see a good use for this tool. Don't have one.

I use an ice pick to align hole when I'm putting the cover back on a window shaker.
