Stabelizing brackets

I picked up a set of OEM brackets today then noticed that one of them has a ball socket on it. What is its purpose, and does it matter which side of the tractor its mounted on?

It's for a sickle bar mower. Line up your pin across from the mounting nut on your lower 3pt arm and you will see it's only made for one side. I believe it's the right side if I remember correctly, Its been a while since I had one.
