Stabilizer bar bracket question?

I took these stabilizer bar brackets off of the 9N I am working on. Does any one have an explanation for what the extra lower link is for on the bracket shown on right? Is this even a matching pair?

Looking from the back of the tractor, the stabilizer bracket with the extra hole in it is for an early Dearborn bar mower, the arm that goes underneath and hooks into it. It helps it pivot when you are mowing while going on rough ground.

My stabilizer brackets are mounted with the pins toward the rear of the bracket / tractor and the flanges facing inward. I just purchased a set of stabilizer bars that will not fit (to long), they look like they may fit if the stabilizer brackets are turned around with the pins located toward the front (stabilizer bracket flanges facing outward toward the the wheel). Is that the correct mounting? Should the pins be facing inward or outward? They are not shown in my Ford tactor Models 9N-2N-8N Assembly Manual and Service Parts Catalog.

ace inward & should align with those on center/diff section.

Thanks, that is what I thought ..... the pivot pins must be in line or the three-point hitch movement would be limited / bind up. I for got to ask what each of the small holes on the casting is for? I guess, probably the chain attachment to the link pins.

I had the same problem. Under fender brackets had been farmerized, so I got smart and started looking for an original set. Got a set from one of the forum regulars who sells used parts and they would not fit..That is when he and I both learned that 8N and 9N brackets are different. I was able to unfarmerize mine and got the stabilizer bars to fit like they are suppose to fit.

JEKI,
The lower brackets you posted pictues of were originally for a Dearborn 3-point mower. This mower had a long spring and bracket on one side that used those brackets. I grew up with one of these on our farm, as a kid, and remember hooking those up very well.
