Stabilizer bars

Can I put stabilizer bars on my 1941 9n and can they be left on all the time,,,also is there anything that I should know about puting them on and how? There is already brackets mounted on each side under the axle. Can these bars be used with all attachments? Thanks for any help.

If the brackets on your 9N are stabilizer bar brackets, you can install stabilizer bars.

If you are unfamiliar with the bars and brackets, install the bars with a drawbar and check full travel by manually lifting the drawbar (engine off) to verify that nothing binds.

Stabilizer bars are intended to prevent implements from swinging side to side and can be used with many implements.

Do not use stabilizer bars with some ground engaging implements, e.g., plow, disc, etc.

A couple of weeks ago I hung the rear disc gang on a tree coming around a corner in the woods on the way to small field because I didn't have a stabilizer bar on it. I bent the axle and it is now repaired. I now have some stabilizer bars and was going to use them with the disc - both while using and during transport. So your statement makes me ask, why not?

Stabilizer bars interfere with steering when towing ground engaging implements.

As always, one must remain conscious of where the trailing implement is when maneuvering, whether it be raised or not.

Grown on a farm and using tractors and implements for ~50 years.

No stab bars with 3 PT plow
use stab bars with 3 PT disk harrow lift it before turning.
use stab bars with drawbar with trailing disk harrow
or use the fixed drawbar.

The only implement used WITH NO stab bars is the 3 PT plow. All others used with bars.

The bars will also releif stress on lift arms pins at the differential housing especially when using dirt scoop or scraper blade backwards.

Stabilizer bars were one of the best things I got for my 8N, along with limiting chains.

I have a backblade, but don't use it often. 98% of the time is the bushhog, for mowing the 6 acres.
Without stabilizer bars, turning, the bushhog would drift to the side and rub up against the rear tires, NOT GOOD. Also, backing up to mow in tight places didn't seem practical without the stabilizer bars.

They were in stock at the local tractor place and easy to put on, I wouldn't imagine going without them. I never take them off, but I don't do any plowing etc.

I use stabilizer bar on everything including plowing, why? because my land is all hillside , without the bars , my plow drifts to the downside of the hill. Although I only have plowed it twice , it seemed to work for me.
