Starter button won't make connection

The starter button on my 2N / 8N - 12V won't engage the starter. It acts like it does if the tractor was in gear and you tried to start it. It just does nothing. No click - no whirring - so not the solenoid - I'm assuming. Obviously there's a neutral safety switch - does that go bad - or get stuck or not disengage ?

You need to be more specific about the starter button.

A 2N does not have a solenoid (unless someone added it) It has a starter switch engaged by linkage from the neutral safety switch on the transmission.

The 8N does have a solenoid that is energized by pressing the neutral safety switch on top of the transmission.

So, what do you have?

OK - well that was a stupid waste of time! Former owner neglected to use a bolt/nut on the battery terminal - so it was sitting loose. I neglected to check that when I bought it. Added the bolt/nut and it's like magic! Starter works again.

Sorry to waste your time - thanks for answering anyway.

It's amazing how many starter problems are only bad connections. People will look at a connection and say "Everything looks good". They just don't understand how corrosion can work.

Glad yours was something easy to see.
