Starter Check

My 8n wouldn't start, The solenoid would just click.
I cleaned all connection, battery is hot
I replaced solenoid, Tractor fired right up

I went back next day, same thing just a light click, like a bad connection. I messed with positive cable tractor fired off.

I purchased another positive cable, all I did, was remove it from solenoid and battery. I put new cable on solenoid and went to put on Battery, starter starts to turn over time I touch it.

I took solenoid back off starter , I hooked the positive cable back to battery and solenoid and start button wire. I removed copper L off of stud. When I press start button, solenoid sounds like its working.

I put my meter on my starter, it shows continuity from stud to starter housing, is starter shorted, shows continuity from stud to any ground.

Sorry for long post, just want some clarification

If I'm understanding your problem correctly I would GUESS that the copper stud in the solenoid turned when you tightened the nut attaching the battery cable to it and is causing the contact disc inside the solenoid to not be able to disconnect continuity between the two large copper studs.

I will check that out if possible, I checked the solenoid studs, no continuity, only continuity is push button stud and battery side solenoid. Should my starter show continuity from starter stud to ground

(quoted from post at 12:21:26 04/04/22) When you say continuity, are you talking about a resistance reading or a dead short? Big difference.
I got it going, changed solenoid again. Wore out must have nailed it. Thanks
