Starter Drive Replacement

Hey guys, here is the next video in getting my Neighbor's John Deere B up and going again. At the end of the last video I showed something had happened to the starter and it would no longer turn the engine over. Well it turns out I inadvertently burned out the starter drive. So in this video I dive into how to diagnose and replace the the drive. First time I have had to do this so you can see how I learned! If interested here is the vid.

Well it turns out I inadvertently burned out the starter drive
I know it may be “let me reach in my word bucket and see what kind of modern lingo I can pull out to describe what happened” kind of thing. But a starter drive does not “burn out” it is better described as broke or failed while in use. However, parts of the electrical motor for the stater can burn out, but that is two different things. I haven’t watched the video maybe I’ll be surprised and the starter drive did actually “burn out”!

I see what you mean but what happened was the overrunning clutch in the starter drive was forcefully spun for too long by remaining engaged with the flywheel. So it wore out from excess friction so that is why I would say it burned out. Just like when a clutch slips too much and folks will say it burned out.
