Starter rebuild parts

Ive been looking all over the Internet but dont see a good
supplier of starter brushes. I can get bushing bearings from
MSN, but only see a few brushes the type I need, on Ebay. I
asked for the dimensions on those. It would be good if I could
find some that were sold by size. Steiner and All States dont
carry rebuilt parts for a 57 Case. Any pointers would be greatly
appreciated.

Find a local starter/generator/alternator shop. They have sources for hard to find parts.

Many tractor starters are common to cars, trucks, other more popular applications. A good counter man will take one look and know exactly what it is.

If there is not a shop in your town, look around, may have to email them some pictures and order the parts.

Your local NAPA or other auto parts store can get quite a few starter parts through their Echlin, Standard Ignition and other suppliers IF someone knows where the old paper "Ag and Industrial Ignition" catalog is and is willing to look.

Or, you can look on the 'net (ebay, etc.) for your own copy to look up parts numbers, then GOOGLE them or check current availability at your local auto parts stores.

Here's the (OLD) one I use.

What is the model and starter tag number you are working with?

Thanks very much. Ill post the members in a few hours. Its a
57 Case 400. Napa says they might be able to order four from
Birgunis, they have the Eckland number. The first two Napa
stores I tried said they couldnt get them. Ill keep your info,
thank you

Thanks, there arent any rebuild shop nearby so Ill have to find them on the net or from an auto parts store. I was hoping a big auto electric store could just give me some the size I wanted but I dont see one

Thanks very much. The starter is a 1957 Case auto lite stamped
MAX. 4095. 110. There are two Carquest part numbers. X328
(Borg Warner). And XAA1085. (Wells). One NAPA number
A505 (Echlin). I might try calling back the Napa store in the
next county who gave me the number and said it was available
in Virginia. I got a 57 Chevy starter solenoid a month ago by
walking into a small carquest store and asking for one, he just
turned around and grabbed it right off the shelf and I didnt call
him before I went in.

According to NAPA and carquest nobody is making or selling brushes for 57 Case tractor anymore. However DB Electric sells new after market starters for them, but not the brushes. There are brushes that look just like mine on EBay but the sellers arent giving the dimensions on them. But they fit a whole lot of cars in the 40s and 50s. Mine have two heavy (maybe 6 gauge?) braided bare copper cable about 2 long between the carbon brush corners and the square flat terminal the screw goes into. The spring end rests between the 2 cables.

Does this look like what you need, the Standard Ignition catalog I have been telling you about says it is.

GOOGLE "Standard EX-37".

LOTS and LOTS available, even on Amazon and ebay.

Wow, I will look at your previous message and get that book! Thank you very much. That has got to be the kit because the first time I talked to Carquest they said I needed the GX37. When I searched Ebay for all the brushes they had, it didn't show this one. I'll get it ordered pronto

Thanks again. I just ordered the EX-37, from CARiD, I'm in town and can't see the brushes right now but the picture does show two that look like at least two of mine, I figured they were all the same but maybe there are two types. Anyway I couldn't find the catalog by googling or on Ebay but will keep trying. I guess the first Carquest I called had the old catalog

I used to get Echlin brushes through NAPA, they have a pretty comprehensive electrical buyers guide catalog.
