starter super m

of not finding info starter went out of super m its 6 volt but tractor been converted to 12 volt can i use a 6 volt starter with no problems

I converted my Super M to 12 volts leaving the original starter and it works fine. By the way I have converted a lot of different manufacturers Tractors and have never had problems with any of them. I would guess if you're having starting issues and grind on it till it gets hot it won't do it any good but doing that on 6 volts isn't any good either. Maybe I've just been lucky but I have done quite a few conversions and just never had a problem although some guys say that a 6 V starter will slam in hard with 12 V system but I have not seen it.

A low 6 volt battery will cause way more heat in the starter than a 12 volt battery . When u are getting that 1 cyl. At a time hesitation in the starter that is cresting heat. Not a fast turning 6 volt starter with 12 volts. The thing 12 volts is hard on is the bendix , that it slams in hard.

The answer to your question is YES. That is the whole point of converting to 12V. The 6V starter doesn't turn fast enough on 6V unless everything is perfect, and sometimes not even then. Converting to 12V eliminates the need for the perfection and constant maintenance.

It is a very common thing to do. Nearly every 12V conversion has a 6V starter. Yes, the starter will get hot faster, but the idea is the engine starts quicker, so you don't have to crank it as long!

If your tractor takes more than 10 seconds of cranking to start, you need to figure out what you're doing wrong and/or give it a tune-up.

Yup, thus my original reply.
That makes no sense. Them tractors tuned up start on the second or third spark plug firing. And there is no reason to be spinning the engine at that speed to start it. I have my tractors here with 6 volt batteries and that’s how they start. And I totally agree with that guy in the video.

usually the original starter is used. There’s a good video online on how to install your 12 volt conversion I always liked on the M how the conversion can be completely invisible unless you crawl under the hood or look at the battery terminals really close
