starter switch

the starter switch is on the starter it uses a long foot pedal to start. i would like to move it if possible.
You could change it to a pull rod as shown in the parts catalog in the link. CNHI Farmall Super H parts What is the problem you have with it? Are you wanting to put a push button on it and a solenoid? If so that requires your starter to be modified or replaced with one with a threaded stud terminal on it.

U can move it to where your heart desires. Of course shorter2/0 cables the better. Mount it in the light bracket if u want. Mount if like the w6 tractors and use ur foot on the switch. Which is kinda his if is now.

the bolt that holds the battery cable to the starter is loose how do i tighten it? i tried to tighten it but it just spins around.

If the bolt is free to turn the solder connecting it to the HEAVY Cooper leads from the field coils must be torn loose.

You will need a HEAVY duty soldering iron or a "soldering copper" and hopefully you have some soldering experience, as this is not the easiest thing to do

He is going to have to tell you what type of switch he has. If it is the type a Super H should have that is rod operated with contact switch under a cover on the side of the starter. See link in reply 4. Or if he has the high amp push button and the one terminal starter with a stud terminal through the case like you guys are talking about.

Like said if the bolt in the motor case on the starter is turning then it is time for the starter shop or be pretty good at soldering and that is not one for the faint of soldering. Then worry about switch location.

I'm no starter expert but I've dealt with some loose bolts by putting a thin jam nut on first and then put the cable on with another nut and tighten the two nuts together and it worked. Maybe I was lucky.

Don't know if OP tried the starter to see if it worked or not. If so then wedge a cutoff washer or something to make a tight connection between the nut, cable, and the starter case and try it. As long as the inside end is contacting the wire end. If the wire is broke free then it would have to be opened up.

Starters aren't cheap. If I couldn't open it up to fix it then my all else fails attempt would be to put a nut on it, stand up the starter with stud down, and touch the nut with a stick welder at 80 to 100 amps and try to remelt the solder and unclamp the rod when it got real hot. Might have been a hot cable from the battery that melted the solder to start.

I will probably get flamed here but I always try to improvise.

I can tell by his explanation what he has. It’s not the Rod style with the bolt on type on the starter. Other wise he would have no bolt to be turning.

On the other hand, I'll bet someone somewhere in tractor land has grabbed the "pad" where the mounted starter switch contacts with a Crescent wrench and at least ATTEMPTED to turn it!
