starter switch

Why didn’t u post a pic of that starter. Your words are confusing here. Some think you don’t have a switch on the starter and some do. So if u do have that switch on the starter there is no other way is there ??? Also it’s pretty hard for that bolt in the switch to be turning as u are saying. Plus there is 2 insulating pieces inside to prevent arching if it does turn a bit. Plus that bolt only goes in one way and cannot be turned around. Only the one on the starter can be turned around due to wear but that’s for experienced personnel, as it has to be unsoldered then turned and redone. And also there is a nut first to hold that contact stud in place. Then another washer and nut on top the cable.

Got him on high alert now, oops got to revert back to nice guy. I agree his description would tend to make you think it was a stud terminal for a battery cable and not the switch. He apparently wasn’t turning it with the battery cable on it or there would have been some serious arcing going on inside there.

two screws hold the starter switch, can i remove the screws and the switch to replace the bolt.
Yes, there is probably a place to get the insulation pieces in there and the bolt. Not sure where didn’t attempt to look that up. Here is a complete replacement offered by YT for $9:30 but the shipping will be $15. YT Super H starter switch
If you get it when you tighten the cable down hold the battery cable terminal lug and exert twisting to counteract the twisting of the wrench to tighten the nut. This with help preserve the insulating pieces from premature damage. Essentially with that type of starter if you want to move your switch other than moving the rod or pedal that engages it you will need a different starter.

How do i move the starter switch on a super H ?
If you have the two bolt mount starter to right side you could use a H or M starter and mount switch were handy. Maybe like a H one mounted to steering post. Or have a stud put in the starter where the contact is. If three bolt mount on left side the same applies about having a threaded stud installed. Starter from a gasoline 300 through 450 will also work but may need to remove magnetic switch from starter body and mount in a different spot or go with hand push switch. Depends on how starter is clocked with end mount. Real late H used the same starter as right side SH pull type.

it cant actually arch , there is insulating terminals on each side of that stud.
