Anyone know anything about AMX starters? They have one for my tractor from multiple sources, cheapest I could find was $178. This seems like a very low price, does the
low price mean low quality? I have tried searching the internet to find out more about the manufacturer but no luck. I imagine it is some Chinese company but not
everything from china is complete junk, although most things are.

I tried but I don't know if I did something wrong to cause the problem but I can't get the solenoid to engage. It is the Nippondenso starter. It has a shunt winding connected to the solenoid somehow. I don't understand how this works but I think there may be a problem in that area. If anyone understands how the solenoid and shunt winding work together, I would be most appreciative to hear how it works and if I can possibly fix what I have. Everything is so expensive for the Denso that it may make sense to get the gear reduction if it is decent quality. It seems everyone gets the gear reduction now if they have to buy a new starter.

I should add that the starter works fine after cleaning and dressing up the commutator. You can hook it direct to a battery and spins over and sounds fine but the solenoid just won't engage.
