I purchased a stater off eBay for my
Ferguson To-30. I'm having difficulty
getting it installed. I was wondering if
someone maybe able to help. I will include
pictures.
Thanks,
John

Running the starter number, Atlantic # 1200-105 (that is a 12 volt starter), in the picture you posted, that starter shows up as for a Massey Ferguson 202, 204, 302, 304, and 356. MF part number 190004M91.

The AGCO online parts book for the TO30 shows part number 181541M91 (6 volt starter). That would appear to be an Atlantic Part # 1200-0104.

Wouldn't I want a 12 volt starter with my
12 volt system. this starter definitely
looks like it's to big for my tractor.
The company I bought it from is the worst
and I had bought several from them the
first 2 burnt up and I had to send them
back and go 2 more as replacements.
Thanks,
John

,

Many use the original 6 volt starter on 12 volt conversions for years with no problem. I have run them that way. Some choose to use smaller cables, like 4 gauge, to "soften" the engagement.

Having a 12 volt starter would be good but you need the same or smaller body than the 6 volt one. It's not as simple as just pick a 12 volt starter.

If you still have your old starter find a shop near you and have them build it as a 12 volt starter. It might cost a bit more but you will know what you have and someone to talk with If there is a problem.

One of the guys may be along with a part number for a 12 volt starter that will fit.

Yeah I don't have the old one it got
trashed and the guy at the starter shop
told me it wasn't worth fixing and buy a
new one. So hopefully someone knows one on
eBay that's 12volt that will actually fit.
Thank you for your insight.
John

have you tried turning the bedix in case the teeth were not meshing and instead of a bottom approach, picking the back up and try a nose down approach to installation.
The wife's Fergy TO-20 is running 12V on a 6V starter now for about 80 hours.
Keep the engine tuned and don't spend more than about 30 seconds cranking before a 2 minute rest.
It will live.

Stay with the 6v starter, pick up a used one o eBay or wherever. Old timers, I guess Im one of them too now, like the quick turn of the 6 v starter with the 12 v system. If you have the original starter, a lot of automotive stores have rebuilding services for starters and generators.

You may want to look to eBay for the correct 6v starter if yours is gone.

1200-0105 fits Continental Z134 . Z134 were original 6 volts and switched to 12 volt.
TO35 was originally 6 volt #1200-0104 and switched to 12 mid run.
So a 6 volt TO35 starter will fit a TO 30 and 20. I really think a 12 volt Z134 starter will fit a TO30.
Starter drives are same # for 6 or 12 volt.

I will try that tomorrow and let you know if it changes anything. just seems like the starters I got are too long but I will try this. It's so close but so far away whenever my tractor was running I was in heaven I love this old thing especially with the front end loader on it.

You could take the end off, just 2 long
Bolts. That would get you 3/8 or 1/2 inch.
Once past the distributor boss, put it back together.

It's already been said but Dad converted a TE-20 over to 12 Volts and it ran for years and years with the 6 volt starter. I eventually had to get it rebuilt but who's to say a 12 volt starter wouldn't have needed repair for the same time period?
