starting a T0 20

I am new to this site. I am 8N owner and have recently aquired a 51 TO20. It is currently not running but it was when owner stop using it 3 years ago. I am not sure how to start motor because it doesnt have a start button on it. I remember the previous owner starting it with the gear shifter somehow. I would appreciate it if someone could explain this to me until I can aquire an owners manual. Thanks.

Turn on the fuel 2 turns (fully open is on reserve) turn on ignition and pull choke, move gear lever to "S" position (straight forward from reverse position)and that will start it. let the choke go in when it is running properly. always turn off the fuel when you finish [email protected]

Turn the key on grip the gear shift in neutral and move it to the right as far as it will go then push the gear shift forward toward the S on the tranny cover above the R. Just in case when you move it to the right and it won't go quite far enough you "may" have to lift up on the gear shift lever a 1/4" as when new from the factory that was the requirement however after all these years that little step has been worn down where that is most likely not the case now. Need more help please repost. Richard

I would only add to have the clutch pushed down while doing this. This also helps in the cold weather to reduce the amount of moving parts the battery has to turn. Especially in THICK cold gear oil.
All the gear shift lever is doing is pushing a "push button" like the N series fords...it is just that the button is inverted in the transmission and the linkages run inside the transmission to engage it. The button, which is between the engine and the steering column..is adjustable in case the linkage at the gear shifter does NOT fully engage the button.
Hope she fires on the second turnover -smile.
