been a little busy so it has been a while since I have been able to provide an update. after some serious frustrations, I finally took my 8n to my local tractor mechanic. I explained to him what it did, all the testing that I had done and what parts I had changed and how I did the settings.
come to find out I did actually have a fuel problem, which I fixed with the fuel bowl replacement and the carb rebuild, and a firing problem. my mechanic was just as stumped as I was at first, but he was a very good mechanic and was able to figure it out.
if you recall on my previous posts, I noticed an irregularity in the fire and I did not really know why it was so inconsistent. now I do come to find out my distributor was bad even though It had no play in the bearings or shaft. I regret that I did not ask my mechanic on the specifics as to what was causing it to do this. my best guess is the counter weights under the points either came loose or moved somehow. again, that is just my guess.he just installed a new distributor and now it is running great and is starting on less than one rotation of the motor with no further adjustments.
