Starting Issues

I have a 70 LP that hasn't ran for quite a while. I did have it running briefly a few months back though. I have been trying to start it and I only have fire to one spark plug. It has new plugs, wires, dist. cap, points etc. I've tried many adjustments, still can't get #2 to fire. I've switched plugs back and forth and have the same problem. What's next?

Scarecrow, okay Ima gonna stick my neck out here cuz Im unsure of what ignition that tractor, being an LP which I believe is different, exactly has. Is it that 90 degree distributor thing with a cam speed (1/2 crank) Delco Distributor?? One thing that comes to mind is it being out of time such that its like 90 degrees late AND ONLY THE ONE CAP TERMINAL IS PICKING UP THE SPARK cuz when it fires the second time the rotor tip is NOT lining up with any of the internal cap tower pickups. Take a look at the distributor and see if when the left No 1 cylinder comes up on its Compression Power Stroke the rotor tip lines up with the leading internal cap tower which wires to the left plug wire terminal and thennnnnnnnnnn 180 of crank or 90 of distributor rotation later the rotor tip should be lined up with the lagging cap tower whose plug wire leads to the right cylinder. If shes out of time such that when the points break open on the second (lagging) cam lobe the rotor tip isnt lined up with a cap internal tower pickup point that could explain what you say is happening.

NO WARRANTY Im just unfamiliar with those LP ignitions maybe Frank or someone can enlighten us all

LP's have to have a much smaller spark plug gap. I don't recall the exact number ?
Have you done a compression check on the engine to rule out a bad cyl. ?

I believe what you are saying has some merit. I have never worked on them, but remember that info from last months 2-Cyl Magazine.
