Starting problems STX30

Would really appreciate some help with my STX 30. Will turn over some of the time, but usually requires that I spin the flywheel by hand to help it get going, or move it to a different position. Have replaced starter because it was doing the exact same thing with the old starter.

I can hear the starter engage, but doesn't have enough oomph to start. Brand new battery too.

Sometimes works perfectly.

Sounds like your compression release is not working. you probably need to adjust the valves.

I would install new battery cables made from welding wire. I also use a full size 75 battery so there's no battery posts to hit the hood.
I use the best battery from Walmart's. I have a starter/generator for starting. Hal
