Stationary thresher

About 3 weeks back, we went to a Draft horse and Antique Tractor Harvest day. The intentions were to run a horse drawn binder and the run it thru the thresher, but it has been so dry, they didnt make any oats or barley to bind.

So they set up the thresher and fed it from a round bale of oats. It had been running before we got there, but they didnt fire it up again .

Here are a couple of pics of the thresher and a stationary baler they had running as well.

I remember the threshing machines in the rice fields in 1942-43. Rice farmers went to pull type combines in 1944-45 and to SPs in 1946(almost all old massey 21s in my area). I thought the threshing machines were monsters (I was five at the time). I remember the stationary balers (we called them "hay presses"). Some people baled an open field across the road from our house when I was about five years old (1943). IIRC, they used a tractor to run the belt to the baler, another tractor with a buck rake and teams to pull the dump rake. I don't remember whether they used teams or a tractor to pull the mower.
