STEARING BRAKES

I HAVE A TO-20 THAT MUST HAVE SET OUTSIDE FOR YEARS BECAUSE THE STEARING BRAKES ARE FROZEN.
IS THERE ANY INFO ON REMOVING THE STEARING BRAKE SHAFT (BETWEEN THE BRAKE DRUN AND THE DIF. HOUSING), I THINK THIS IS WHERE MY PROBLEM IS....

Terry go to page 2 of this forum and scroll down to TO 30 Brakes. then follow those directions I think you will see what you need. From what I have read those steering brakes are easy to adjust. Richard

ADJUSTMENT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. THE CAM'S THAT MAKE THE ADJUSTING RODS MOVE ARE FROZEN. THE PART THAT HOLDS THE CAM IS HELD IN PLACE BY A KEY WAY ON THE SHAFT. I HAVE DRIVEN THE CAM OUT PART WAY AND CAN GET SOME MOVEMENT.IF I COULD REMOVE THE ENTIRE SHAFT AND CAM SYSTEM I COULD FIX IT IN THE SHOP.HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ...

took me over 1 hour on each side to get my frozen to20 rods loose and apart. if you are get any movement just keep working it back and forth with lots of spray in between.i put anti seize on mine when it went back together.

My 1950 fergie brakes where completely frozen. I hit it with a 4lb. hammer and firewood but can not move it. I take the nuts on the brake backplate off and hit the plate away from the diff and the sideshaft and the brakes moves to the outside the brakeshaft pull out by the diff and on the end were a brass bush that split in a spiral way round the shaft. I open it up with a big screwdriver and it came off. Clean the shaft with sandpaper and put some ghries in and put every thing back and all was working fine.
