Stearing question

As you know I am a newer 8N owner. 51 side mount.
Just a question about steering.
I can take the wheel over left or right and the tire will lightly rub radius arms. Not hard but touch them. Is this normal or are there some stops worn some where. The front end does not appear to be loose.
Just wondering
Thanks
Bob

Bob........kinda depends. Many 8N's have had front end loaders mounted and non-standard (5.50x16 is std) wider tires have been fitted for load floatation. There are NO stops.

The way to check fer frontend problems is to jack-up the tractor so BOTH wheels are off'n the ground. And then swing yer steering wheel lock-to-lock and look fer movement. Look underneath yer steering wheel hub and look fer uppsie'n'downsie. (bad ball-nut upper bearing) You could also have worn front axle kingpin. That will "clunk" and cause front axle movement.

As fer yer steering gearbox, we recommend 2-tubes of STICKY corn head grease from John Deere 'stedda' 90wt gear oil. Gear oil leaks out the seals but grease don't. ........Dell

Thanks Dell. I did the jack up thing and spun the wheel, Yanked and pulled on every thing. Tings are relativly tight. I did not check the rubber dim's. Like I said they barely touch so it's not that bad and you don't go hard over that much. I was more of a question then a problem.

Than a problem

Thanks So Much
Bob
