Steel wheel gear

I have an old running gear that I want to make in to a hay rack. I want to make sure it can handle the weight for the size I build. It was once a steel wheel gear. My granfather cut off the rims and welded rubber tire rims on to the spokes. Any Idea what these old gear were rated for? 3ton, 4 ton?

Actually not rated. should be able to handle 125 normal small squares easy.

It all depends on the condition of the wood axle, as I assume thats is what y ou have as 95% of all steel wheel wagons had wood axles.

I just finished my hayrack. It was built out of a thresher running gear I think. It has 3in iron axles. I made the bed 10 X 20. I put 3 2 X 6 X 20 on each side of the axle, and then went and put 3 more in the center. These run front to back. I made the bed out of old 2 X 3s that I couldnt drive a nail through. They had to be bolted. I built the front and back racks 8ft high for loose hay or corn shocks. The back I can change into a 3ft highth for the hay loader. They were made to be taken off and laid down on the bed and the bed covered with tin to protect it till needed. I mde a tongue in back for the loader, The bed hangs out front and back 5ft. It sets high cause of the higher wheels, 30 and 36in dia, but I didnt build it to pitch loose hay onto. It was built for either a square bail loader, a loose hay loader, or a binder elevator which I have with my binder.
