Steering Box Drain?

I have been dutifully following the "50 Tips" when one applies and the other week I topped off the steering box on my 1950 8n. Who would have thought that was the fill!

I had briefly driven the tractor around before adding the fluid and the steering was stiffer before than after I added the fluid. That's no shocker I'm sure It's even easier now after more use.
Question: Is there a drain? I hate to think what the new fluid is mixed with at this point.

nondem........just like yer late model 8N steering gearbox fill'em-up is secret battery tray hidey-hole, the ONLY drain is a secret too. REMOVE the adjust'em plate leftside of box and letter drain down the side of yer tranny. Yeah, ittza mess.

Since you don't know what type of oil yer steering box previously contained and I don't know what type of oil you used to fill'em-up with.....yeah, probably good idea for complete drain, clean with mineral spirits or paint thinner ...or... solvent of your choice. And REFILL

We recommend 2-tubes of thick sticky (byte my tongue) John Deere cornhead oil. (tip: warm it up in sunshine first) this is enuff to make certain yer upper steering gear bearing gitts LUBE'd. Standard fill to overflowing is UNDER-LUBE bearing fill level. Just PUMP the cornhead oil to overfill........Dell

I was looking through my FO-4 yesterday, and if I remember right, there is a drain plug on the [i:0232e39b5b]bottom[/i:0232e39b5b] of the steering gear box (at least according to the exploded view drawing). Of course, you'd have to tear the tractor half apart to be able to use it…

Dell's method, while messy, should work fine.
