Steering box/shaft

Folks-
I have a 48' 8n and the steering shaft broke.
I bought a new on and installation went fine.
However, now I have a massive amount of 'play' in the steering, about 360 degrees to be exact.
I'm wondering if I did something wrong on the install or if perhaps I was sold the wrong part?
Anyone with any experience and insight they might offer, it would be appreciated.

I've never gotten into the steering on an 8N, but have done a 2N and a NAA. I have two questions for you.

1. Do you have and did you follow the I&T FO-4 service manual?
2. Did you compare the old shaft with the new one?

No sir, I don't have nor did I follow the service manual.
Yes, old and new shaft appeared identical.
