Steering cylinder

Have a MF50. Rebuilt cylinder but still leaks around shaft. Does anyone know where I can buy new cylinder?

What is the cylinder part number you need?

Is the rod damaged?

Did you rebuild it? MF parts or aftermarket? If the rod is good, I wonder if the rod seal is wrong (either type or installed wrong).

I just did a MF 255 steering cylinder with no leak as yet. Likely not the same as the cylinder on your MF 50 from what I see in the parts book.

Chrome is worn off rod. MF parts. If available I just buy new cylinder. Had shop to build it.

Chrome wearing off will chew seals right up.

Do you have the part number for the cylinder? You will want that to search with. Does your MF 50 have fully hydraulic steering with two cylinders? It looks like the gas, and diesel tractors used the same cylinders. The part number I see in the online parts book is 193814M91 for the cylinder. The rod is 1025499M91. You should verify the numbers for yourself. Sometimes the part number was stamped into the cylinder barrel. I don't see either the cylinder or rod turning up available new online, from MF or aftermarket.

The hydraulic shop I use, has made cylinder rods for me before. He purchases chromed rod to make them from. Some places can re-chrome rods.

The cylinder is in the grill and only has the one.

That type does not show in the online MF 50 parts book, only the type I posted the picture of. The Massey Harris 50 shows the one cylinder in the area between the radiator and grill. It is hard to search for a cylinder until the right one is determined to get a part number.

There are 3 different cylinders and valves of that type shown in the MH 50 parts book. Two for gas engines and one for diesels.

I understand things were intermingled some during the Ferguson, Massey-Harris, and Massey Ferguson in the years around the early MF 50s. Is your tractor by chance a MH 50, or at least a MF 50 that uses the MH 50 parts book?

Below is a clip from the MH 50 parts book of the power steering cylinder and valve for the diesel. There is a (MF 50) noted at the top of the right column. Looking at your past posts it looks like this might be diesel. Does this look like your steering cylinder and valve?

That sure looks like the one on my 1967 MF 150 gas.
