Steering don't work

Hi
Steering don't work on my International 706.
Steering wheel turns but nothing happens.
My oil light will not shut off also.
I have had issues before , but thought it was air locked. I loosened the bolt to let air in/ out and it seemed to work. Have no idea what that bolt is called.
That does not work any more.
Seems like the back hydraulics work.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

If like my IH584 it is hyd steering so low on fluid or a clogged filter causes problems at times

James, let’s take another crack at the model number? 860?? You posted about a 656 and a loader is this the tractor? Hydraulics and the light are not connected on mechanical TA tractors like the 656. Maybe it is a 806, in that case when was the hydraulic fluid and filter changed last? Does the 3 point or fast hitch work? Do the auxiliary remote levers change the engine sound as if they develop pressure when dead headed? Edit feature is at lower left, on a phone it is accessed by the 3 dots to the right of report in the lower left corner.

*806 steering not working tel tale light does not go out , HUMM . welp lets start with the hyd filter Change it . Use a new gskt , next add FIVE extra gallons of HY TRAN . Start tractor make sure your setting level or nose down hill a bit . Run engine at atleast half throttle and turn steering wheel to the left and keep turning this will bleed air . It should pick up prime after a while . If this results in a no JOY then it now comes down to ya need a new M CV pump or the pump gear has come loose . This will require DRAINING the Hyd. oil and removing the MCV valve body and if so as you remove it do not loose the sump check plug and spring on the lower right had side of the MCV . THEN YA NEED A new gskt AND o/ring and pump that pump is a 9 gallon per min pump .

My oil light will not shut off also.

Engine oil pressure light? That would seem to be a separate issue. Possibly a bad oil pressure switch or maybe a shorted wire. Unplug the switch and see if the light goes out.

Seems like the back hydraulics work.

"Seems"? I would think this would be binary: Either they work or they don't. Will they operate a remote cylinder? I'm guessing you can't actually attach an implement because of the steering issue.

Had that all wrong. It's a 706. It's a friend's tractor.
Fluid changed 3 years ago. Maybe get a 200 on the tractor a year. Haying only, cutting and bailing. We will check the hydraulics today.
Thanks.

On the 06 thru 86 series tractor the oil tel tail light covers both the engine and the M CV , not one of I H's brighter moves . when you depress the clutch the M C V dump valve opens and dumps pressure off the clutch pac.'s in the T/A for easy shifting and the oil light comes on so also if the the M C V has no pressure your steering and brakes lube and hyd cooling is not working as these tractors have three hyd pumps . one for the MCV , one for the hyd.'s and one for the PTO . the main hitch pump and M C V draw off the same pick up , the PTO has it's own pick up tube and does not go thru the filter . Standard main hitch pumps were a 12 gallon per min pump while the M C V pump is a 9 gallon per min . So the main hyd. pump sucks more and is closer to the filter while the M C V pump has to suck fluid harder and a longer distance . Now some say that the reason they don't draw as well is the seal between the rear end housing and the speed transmission where the M CV pump is located is sucking air between both housings , i have a hard time believing this because if you have never split one of those tractors i do not see how this is can happen the gskt between the two housings darn near takes and act of GOD to get them apart , you can remove every bolt and it will just hang there till the end of time then once split then the fun comes removing the gskt as it is easier to remove four inches of concrete . Now i have run into the pick up tube in the rear case develop a crack where the mounting tab is welded to the pick up tube and that part of the tube sets up out of the oil level when the level is setting at the correct level , but if you dump five more gallons in that hair line crack is now under oil .

The fun
Hopefully it's the pickup tube. We will find out the Friday.
Thanks

Ya got issues let me know . Due to old age and many of us OLD guys that worked on them are no longer here to help . I have not seen pete 23 or Owen on for a long time . Mr Fred he has worked on them . and trust me i ain't no spring chicken . I am semi retired and now only do work for a few OLD customers . Around here we have small farms that go back with the same family. and still running what was bought new on that farm . with the newest being 66 series tractors and back as far a S/MTA's still working There are four S/MTA's working within two square miles . The young KID's at the local Case /I H dealership that has now changed hands three times in like 15 years they don't know anything about the OLD . Two 806's mine and one of my old customers a half dozen 706's that i sold years back a 966 i found for my one friend . Here two years ago i did a T/a on that one . Yep we are farming like it is 1975 and it gets the job done . No computers to shut you down no DEF just old raw horse power that is all paid for

Do you still have power brakes? if the brakes are mush too it leads me to the MCV pump or the oring of sorts on the pickup tube between it and the case, I had one that a guy changed the pump himself and it would not work after, fought it for a long time, tried the overfill on oil and still nothing, finally figured out the tube was put in backward and allowing the ring not to seal. I believe that was a 686 but still very similar setup in the larger chassis tractors. More likely cause is either the pump is worn out or as was stated the key sheared or the gear came plum off that drive the pump.

Hi all
Got the steering working. Changed the filter and it started working just fine. Had to prime it, but it works.
The filters not as dirty as I expected at all.
But the steering works.
Thanks everyone.
