Steering linkage boots

OK, apologies in advance, because I can't believe this wouldn't have been covered, but my search wasn't turning it up. So I'm probably using the wrong terminology.
Anyway, the tie rods and steering linkage on my `48 8N have boots that have all but rotted away. Obviously they need to be replaced, so I'm looking for advice, do's vs. don'ts, etc. I do have both the Ford and the shop manual. So I'm looking for "experience" insight. Thanks!

Tom.........BOIL'em in HOT water. Turn'em INSIDE-OUT and start'em bass-ackwards. When they stop sliding, turn'em rite side out. Simple, eh? ........the amazed Dell

The tie rod ends you remove the cotter pin and castle nut and
hit it with a hammer or use a tie rod end tool
Loosen the small bolt on the steering arm and unscrew it pay
attention to how far it was screwed in match the new one.
For the end at the steering arm unbolt the castle nut drive a
wedge of wood behind the bolt head tap on the steering arm to
loosen the tapered pin
Use a screwdriver to remove the metal washer/s and remnants
of the leather boot.
Use even pressure by hand to snap the new ones in place.
Replacement is easy.
Grease boots until grease starts to Ooze out wipe off excess
with a rag
Check front tires for proper alignment

Front at the front wheel linkage are rear at the steering gear linkage are both...

Front are plug and play rear's a completely different animal...

They all need to be replaced, they're pretty much rotted away.
