Steering post lock nuts

Need 2 each new or good used steering shaft lock nut for Ford 9N, 2N.
Original part #351119-S8
Was used from 1939-1947

Cannot find anywhere and cannot fabricate due to oddball size:
1-1/16" hex, 1/4" thick with 13/16-28 thread.

Salvage is probably your best bet, but taps are available:

I suspect you will have to find them used or make them. I have the hex stock but not the tap.

Did you try just googling 13/16-28 nut? I did and a lot of options came up,don't know if that helps but worth a try.

They are 9N / 2N . They are a pair of jam nuts that hold the top bearing in place on this pic .

I bought a good used shaft and both steering sectors for a 9N I am working on . I think it may have the nuts on it and I will not need them . I will be at the shop tomorrow and if I have some I will gladly send them in the mail .

Any machine shop can fab one too. If I was still in the business, I'd make you one, CNC, single point the thread, but you still would need a 13/16-28 GO/NO-GO thread gage to get size right or a male fastener of some sort, bolt, threaded rod, or even a tap. Try your local tractor boneyard too. There are a few fellas on fleabay that part out tractors as well so can watch and ask them. Industrial Supply houses and tooling manufacturers can supply one too. If not available as standard product, one can always special order a mustard ( sorry, the posting protocol here won't let me write the "B" word ) size like that.

I just popped for the tap and should have a handful on the shelf in a couple weeks. If you can't find a good one give me a yell.

If you've got good ones & have no need, I would be more than happy to buy them! At least enough for a case of beer or whatever. My only other choices so far are to buy somebody a $40 tap then pay them to fabricate. Only other choice is to turn down the shaft & re-thread for a smaller standard nut.

I got your email through YT but not sure how to send one back that route . It will be a couple hours but I will get back to you and let you know if I have a set . I am going to look for some parts for another gentleman here also .

My shop is probably better equipped than most home shops but wouldn''t really qualify as a "machine shop". It has grown with me so don't despair - your's will grow as well. Don't need a machine shop for this - it's pretty easy if you have a chunk of hex laying around and the tap which didn't cost me $40. I'll make a dozen or so and put them on the shelf because I am sure someone will eventually want them. I'll put the tap in the tap cabinet where it will probably remain until the cabinet and contents sells for $20 at my estate auction :roll: I also have a 9N - the two nuts on it are in pretty bad shape so I had already considered making a couple. This is just the nudge I needed to get me off my a$$ ;-)

Do you need just the two nuts ? Email me your address and I'll send them to you no charge . I may use the shaft , bearings and race / collars .You can help someone else or make a donation to your local animal shelter - Ken .

I have given away the nuts . I still have the lock and the woodruf (sp) key if you need them .

I would have bet that the 8n / 9n bearing were the same but they are a little different . The 8n shaft is concaved where the bearing rides and the 9n collars / race seems to be fairly flat .

ear. TheOldHokie, I am in need of 1 of those special lock nuts. I am rebuilding the steering on a 9N and I lost 1 when I was taking the shaft out and I need it to finish the job. If you see this, please contact me. Thanks so much!
