Steering Problems

I'm having intermittent problems with steering. Every once in a while the steering wheel seems to just to slip out of gear. But if I gently turn back to left it seems to engage and works fine for a number of uses of the tractor.

Can the steering gear disengage and then re-engage on worn tractor? I'm a novice so looking for help. I've got another separate post on PTO / Hydraulic Lift problem also.
