Depends on if you plan to reuse it or if your replacing the steering wheel

Well I would like to keep it, it's in great shape, I'm trying to get the gas tank out to be boiled out. So the way I see it is he steering wheel has to come off.

a 3 jaw puller is best since it is pulling from 3 points 120 degrees apart.

Hopefully it's a stock steel spoke wheel. If it is you can put a little heat to the hub if it doesn't come off right away without doing any damage that a spritz of black paint can't fix.

I think I would put a bearing splitter behind the hub and then grab it with the puller

When I took my 300 steering wheel off, I used a piece of aluminum plate against the threads and had another person in the seat pulling up very hard on the steering wheel. I then took a 6 pound sledge hammer and hit the aluminum piece and the steering wheel popped off instantly.
