sticking carburetor part 2

Sorry to bother you again, but I forgot to mention that the stick or catch goes away when I shut the truck off. It is definitely not the linkage. It can be sticking, catch in the gas pedal and as soon as I shut down it quits. Gas pedal depresses smoothly. First 20 miles or so no problem. Ellis

Didn't some Ford's have a problem with the cab mounts rusting out and the cab was resting on the frame? Could you have a rust problem or a defective cab or motor mount pinching the gas pedal? I would suggest someone pushing on the brakes, putting it in gear while you look for the motor moving. Don't stand in front of the truck.

Since he had to go and make a part 2, he is talking about a 1981 Ford, F-100, 300 inch six cylinder. Body mounts are out, like I said in his other post it uses a cable. Rock auto accel cable

Why not disconnect that cable from the carb and see if it’s operating smoothly and eliminate that right off the bat. Plus lube it. Maybe the engine heat is causing it to stick. Step on the gas pedal and the cable should pull in , then you should be able to pull it back with no effort. I still
Don’t really know what u are referring to . Is the gas pedal sticking when driving with your foot off the pedal. ??? Was the carb worked on ? That would be the holly carb ?sure seams like a master mechanic has something wrong on that carb

I had a carburetor once where the throttle blades interfered with the intake manifold when you stepped on the gas. Loosening the mounting bolts and repositioning the carb solved the problem. In that case the mounting studs were 5/16 and the holes in the carb were closer to 3/8. hth

Cab mounts are about a year old. Ellis

if it was the choke sticking on then you would see it running rich and have black smoke. have you confirmed the cable is ok ? we need to eliminate stuff and not keep guessing. i am very familiar with carburetor talk and have cleaned and put kits in pretty well all the auto carbs out there. and hesitation or stumble or running rich is some words related to them but a" catch" i have never heard of. so what is happening when this catch happens? not being a smart azz either just like to know what is happening when this catch is going on. is the truck continuing at the same speed when u take your foot off the pedal ? what do u do when this' "catch "happens ?

How about the right side motor mount. Ive seen when the motor torqued over because of a broken rubber in the motor mount caused the throttle to stick or go wide open.

The truck has a clutch. Every time I shift I ease up on the gas pedal and when I depress the pedal again it does not depress unless I push harder with my foot. Maybe there is a better word for it. Ellis

Did you look at the motor and transmission mounts?

On his truck when the engine cranks the choke drops back to a pretty good fast idle. That's where the catch is in the choke. There is no smoke.

I think you have a binding or a piece of metal moving when you clutch causing the pedal to bind. I have a feeling the bind is not on the carb. the pushing of the clutch is moving, bending, folding, or jamming something that is causing the catch. I would look at the hinge on the pedal. there could be a piece of rust that is falling in or some such thing happening.
