Sticking Clutch again

I used my 528N about 7 weeks ago to pull down a dead tree. I forgot to chock the clutch pedal to keep it from sticking and now it's stuck again.

A few years ago The clutch got stuck because it had been 6 months since I started the old thing. So the experts here advised me to block the clutch pedal from coming up and I got in the habit. The tree came down great and it needed to be cut up quickly to clear the driveway and i forgot to chock the pedal. I parked the 8N to get it out of the way too.

The first and only time it ever stuck, I stepped on the pedel for about 45 minutes and it broke free. After an hour today of stepping it's still stuck.

Any ideas, others has had this happen before and I'm hoping for a cure.

I forgot to say the sticking clutch is stopping me from putting it in gear, it wants to grind.

I always gently try to put it gear be I can hear and feel the gears grinding. The clutch plate is sticking to the flywheel.

You might try blocking the clutch petal down,lock the brake on one side and jack up the other wheel.Put it in 4th gear and rock the wheel that is jacked up hard back and fourth to break the clutch free.There are other ways to get it broke loose but are not as safe.

Must be the weather and clutches made out of different materials--My Dad has had a 2N for
55 + yrs and never a stuck clutch and never been blocked down(stuck one time because of
my dumb mistake)..I have had a 2N since 2004 and never stuck clutch and never blocked
down..Any chance u are losing oil from the engine or the transmission that might be
getting on the clutch? Don't take much oil to make them do crazy things--nosed mine down
in a ditch to pull the PTO shaft-front trans seal was bad and I did not know it--soaked
the clutch in trans oil and had to split it and install a new clutch, pressure plate TOB
and trans seal..Soaking the clutch stuck it instantly--soon as I tried to move it from
the nosed down position it would not disengage---No it did not have time to swell-just
the oil on the clutch and PP made it act like direct drive with no disengage---be sure u
are not getting oil on the clutch---is oil dripping from the cotter keyed hole in the
bottom of the clutch housing?

I bought my 52 8N from my wife's great uncle almost 20 years ago.
He had it for 34 years before me.

I hauled it back to Atlanta from Louisiana and had a friend replace the clutch plate. When I retired from Atlanta and moved to Louisiana for good I brought it back here.

A water pump is the only problem I've had with it and it was easy to replace. The 8N has been a workhorse here clearing trees and hauling them out the logs.
Actually I was starting it to move it inside my shed for the season when it failed to go into gear with the engine running.

I guess it's not ready to retire this fall. I usually pull it from the shed every 6 weeks or so and run it around the country side for a day to keep everything going. I do that with all my lawn equipment, and I keep fuel in them all with Stabill in the gas.
My portable generator is 29 years old and still ready if a hurricane come this way.

This weekend I'll try to raise one wheel and bump the transmission in hopes a free clutch.

My clutch frequently sticks if I don't leave it blocked down. Especially in winter time. I'm not sure if it has ever happened in summer.

When it has stuck on me, I've freed it all but one or two times simply by cycling the clutch pedal. If you can put some load on the hydraulics or PTO, it should help break the clutch free.

Until recently, I didn't have the factory-installed safety start button, but just a key start. So I used to be able to start it in gear. (Still can, but need to rig a jumper wire.) Which is useful when the clutch is stuck--it breaks free much easier when it's got a load on it. If you can get the tractor somewhere you can drive it a nice distance (I've got a loop around my cabin) and start it in gear, you can just drive while standing on the clutch, or cycling the clutch.

While I won't recommend it, I did once put the tractor into gear while running without using the clutch.

This morning I got everything out of the way behind the 8N because I had pulled in under the carport facing the wall. I knew I had to back out by starting it in gear and I tried to prepare for a escape too.
But It happened so quickly. I tried again to see if the clutch was free but the gears wanted to grind while running, so I let the old girl warm up for a few minutes and shut it off.
I put it in reverse and shorted the start button and in a fraction of a second, without the tractor rolling backwards at all, the clutch came free.
I was able to back it out and run it around the place fro a few minutes and everything is fine now.
