Stihl 026 carb RR

My trusty 026 (same as a MS260)now takes ~8 pulls to start when cold, but starts right up when warm, so I'm thinking it is losing its prime somewhere. I bought a carb kit, but I'm stuck on removing the carb. I backed off the 2 nuts on the face of the carb and removed the idle screw. The carb wiggles but I can't pull it out. I don't want to try too hard and wreck something. What else is holding it in? Thanks for your help.

Hello tim (ny)

Some time back I had one apart, not your model though. It had a hose going to tbe engine from the back side on the carb. A couple of hose clamps, one for each side. Take a look there. p>Guido.

When its cold ( 0 to 15-20 above) mine takes a few pulls too about the same as yours, but after warm or running starts 1st pull. The fuel line will hold the carb in place push off with screwdriver when pulling carb off. Note linkage position.

When my 026 got to taking 10 to15 pulls to start if cold I drilled a small hole in cover over air filter. PUT mixed gas in a plastic squirt bottle & give it a shot into air filter. Starts first pull every time now.

The throttle link is probably your problem. On lots of stihls you have to remove it from the trigger.

Also the pulse hose on some stihls is really tight. Its usually under the carb.

On some models you have to either remove the fuel line or make sure it is clear to move back when the carb slides off the studs. Sometimes there is interferance from the choke shaft that runs across under the carburetor.

I guess you already dealt with the rubber seal around the mixture screws.
