still trying to ID B S Engine

Again thanks for all the help in trying to ID this engine. I have included all the pictures again and added one more which shows the only mark I can find on this engine after tearing it down and cleaning it up. It is a number 2 cast into the block as seen in the picture (probably just for casting purposes). I took off the head, measured the bore and got 2.75", another person posted this message in my last post.

Just pull the head off and measure the bore with a tape-measure. Good idea anyway to verify the condition of the engine. You can stick the head back on later and you won't need a new head gasket. Then ID for an aluminum engine with points behind the flywheel as thus.
2.375" bore a model 8B/80000/820000
2.5" bore will be a model 100000
2.78" bore a model 110900
2.56" bore a model 130000
2.75" bore a model 140000
3" bore a model 170000/190000

I promise you there is not another mark anywhere on this engine as it is that I can see. Thanks again for all the feedback.

Well we know it's a Briggs. One place they stamp the numbers is on the bottom of the recoil.Looking at the recoil it will be on the right hand side. You may have to take it off to see them all.The mark in the picture is for timing or TDC.
That's a neat old mower. We used to have one many years ago.The one we had wound up on a Christmas tree farm with a 24 inch saw blade on it.Good Luck.

What else are you trying to find out? 2.75" bore aluminum block engine is a 140000 series Briggs & Stratton engine. You didn't mention if you measured and verified the stroke with a tape measure. Stroke will be 2 3/8" The engine was used on many small tractors and mowers. Some rated it 5 horse and some (like Simplicity in the model H) rated it 5 3/4 horse.

The first two numbes of "14" stand for 14 cubic inches. The rest would different depended on what options the engine came with.

3rd number can be anything.

4th number tells type of carb, crank and gov. For a horizontal engine - 1 is VacuJet, 2 is Pulsa-Jet, 3 is Flo-Jet with air governor, and 4 is Flo-Jet with mechanical governor

5th number tells types of main bearings and if gear reduction. 0 is plain sleeve bearings, 2 is ball bearing, 3 is flange-mounted ball bearing, 5 is 6/1 gear reduction, 6 is 6/1 gear reduction reverse rotation, 8 is aux drive right-angle to crank, 9 is aux drive parallel to crank.

6th number tells type of starter. 0- no starter, 1 - rope, 2 - rewind, 3 - 110 volt electric, 4 - 12 volt belt drive, 5 - 12 volt gear drive, 6 - alternator only, 7 - 12 volt starter gear drive with alternator, 8 - vertical pull starter

It can't be a 14 or 19. They are both cast-iron block engines. This one is aluminum. Probably a 140000 series. Also not the "BS" on the shroud it not on the bottom left as the older engines usually have.
