Hello,

Mine was with Wally Mart. Heve not bought from the store since, 35 plus years. They would have gone out of business if were up to me. Thats my story!......

Guido.

Back when I was married, my wife was late getting home. She was starting to have mental health issues and she was charged with shoplifting at WalMart. She made a mistake, but the Wally people were not very kind to her. I have been in the store when I was with other people and once when my son needing something from there, but otherwise, I go else where.

For me, it was K-Mart.
30+ years ago, I received some K Mart-branded ratcheting wrenches as a gift. They clearly stated on the pouch that they had a lifetime warranty. I broke one and argued with the store manager for a good half hour that they had a warranty. I actually had to go out to my car and bring in the tool pouch to prove to him that the wrench was warranted. I should have just thrown the wrenches away....right through their front window.
There used to be a store close to where I lived that had me angry every time I left the store. The second-to-last time I went there I was doing some Christmas shopping and the checkout lines were very long, probably 10-12 people in each line. I was almost ready to put my items on the conveyor belt when store cashier walked over to a closed register next to me, pointed to me and told me "Come to this aisle and I'll ring up your items." I started to put my items on the conveyor and then the cashier said: "Oops, I don't have a key to open up this register. Sorry." He then just walked away and was probably hiding because I was furious. Of course, the people waiting in line where I used to be wouldn't give me eye contact to let me back in line, so I just left all my merchandise on the belt and in the cart and walked out. The last time I went into that store was when they had a "Going Out of Business" sale. Somehow, I was furious with them on that day also.
There are no more K-Mart stores within two hours of me now, but in 2015 I went into the Hutchinson, Kansas store while my better half and I were going to the state fair. They had some oil on sale that was clearly marked in their sales flier, but they wouldn't sell it to me on sale price. Once again I left a K-Mart store furious, same as normal.
I did get my last laugh though. While going to the Kansas State fair in 2016, I noted that the Hutchinson, Kansas store had shut down and was shuttered.
Good riddance.

Wife still buys the groceries at Walmart. Pretty much a necessity as the other "designer" stores are so much more expensive, geared toward the yuppie crowd.

I go there to buy oil, filters, antifreeze, etc. Sometimes I will visit the home improvment area, their prices are better than HD or Lowes, but very limited and have to watch the quality. Again it's because of the savings.

I never go there with any expectation of getting assistance with a purchase. I know I am on my own, just like any other big box store, I have to know what I'm after, find it on my own.

I will not set foot in their automotive repair area! I could not imaging trusting those fools to do anything to any of my vehicles!

I got a somewhat funny story about WalMart. About a year ago, my son was a senior in high school and the junior and senior class participated in a prom dance lock-in. This is where the kids are locked into the high school gymnasium all night long and they have a food buffet with games and lots of prizes, contributed by many of the local merchants. Since my local high school classes are really small (averaging 15-20 kids per class), each kid takes home quite a few nice prizes, the top prize being a color TV set, many gift certificate from the local eateries or perhaps a nice cash prize. Anyway, one of the classmates of my son won a $100 gift card from the local WalMart. Just about every kid in the lock-in busted up laughing uncontrollable because just about a week before this girl was barred from WalMart for life because she got convicted of shoplifting at this very store.

I won't buy anything out of their auto dept. Daughters car needed new tires and went into them and they said car had oversize tires and it was a law that they couldn't put over size tires on car. Funny thing is the tires on car where the tires it came from factory with.I went to local independent dealer and he put tires on and said there is no law that it was a Walmart law.

Sears. No good ever came from me walking in to one of those stores. DeereMart has fallen to that level too. Pampas pains in the backside who work at either place must go through some "treat customers like dirt" training course.

My coffee buddies and I went to the Mickey D's at Walmart one morning, instead of our usual habitu?- sort of a 'field trip', if you will. We always get a newspaper to read, and I picked one up from the stack by the ONLY checkstand going, with about 10 people in line, and put a dollar on the checkstand (after I had the checker's attention and waved the newspaper at her, so she knew what was going on).

About 10 minutes later, the store manager (no less) showed up at our table, and you'd think I had sucker-punched the Queen, or something. She DEMANDED that I take my dollar back (which she had in her hand), and go over to the line at the checkstand with my paper and buy it PROPERLY. I told her I never stand in any line with more than 3 people, so that would not be possible. After mulling several possible responses (each of which would earn a well deserved poof, here), I chose a constructive one. "Please take my dollar", said I, "and go pick up an identical newspaper, hand both to your checker, and she can record the transaction. Then put the paper back on the stack, earthshaking retail crisis averted." I then took another sip of coffee and went back to my paper. She stood there fuming at me for a moment, then walked off in a huff. I'm sure she had thought of several ways to throw her weight around, but decided that anything she did would only make her look more ridiculous.

Guido,

There are some areas of the country that Hate Wal-mart so much, they give them permits to build a store.

I found if you mention any store on YT, someone will HATE IT.

If you mention any model car or truck, someone will HATE IT.
Yesterday I posted Toyota is planning an expansion 400 new jobs. Out came the Toyota HATERS.

I once mentioned dewalt tools. YEP, I HATE DEWALTS TOOLS, JUNK!

I once posted my trip to N Indiana and 40 miles of beautiful windmills. I HATE WINDMILLS.

Sometimes I think it's me, I post something and it's like Lightning striking, someone will HATE IT.

Life is full of Bad Experiences, I just make the best of it. I can always find something good to buy at stores many hate.

Do you think I'll bring out more HATERS?

i tend to avoid walmart as well. recently purchased a set of tires, where did i go? Texaco Express Lupe, yep; great place, clean shop, clean service people and plenty of them, courteous beyond measure, careful with the rims, placed paper mats in the floor, washed the tires and rims, competitive prices, free road hazard, flat repair and rotate. purchased two sets there and yes i had nitrogen fill.

Some are good and some are bad unfortunately a few bad experiences get more press. I had my oil changed for years at one it was convenient and quick the guy there was a good mechanic unfortunately i took it to a second walmart was in a hurry the next time the guy changed oil he showed me what had been put in and it was not factory original. Best guess we had was someone had used an impact wrench on it and stripped the threads add to that he didn't say anything just put in an expansion plug. Its hard to say one bad experience versus a lot of good ones.
Saying that i worked in a factory that started selling to walmart eventually walmart was able to put pressure on the prices forcing them to start going to china they saved first shift but second and third were gone.

the wife and i were shopping for this Christmas past for the little ones.
we were in wally world the wife sees Mr potatoe head for 36 dollars and some change she wanted to buy 2 of them but price was to high.
just afterward we were at Aldi's to do some grocery shopping, and they had the same exact mr potatoe head for 6.99
you really have to watch Walmart prices, my wife saves us a lot of money by knowing who has what and at what prices

Wal Mart is the only place I get my oil changed. Local store has a husband and wife doing the oil. I wouldn't want these folk to rebuild an injector pump, but they do just fine at changing oil. If there is a problem, I have irrefutable printed and electronic proof that they did the work. Wal mart is to big to seriously fight a claim for damage to an auto, so having it made right would not be horrible.

You make a good point, all stores have their good and bad points, good and bad help, etc etc.I'm not going to "Cut off my nose to spit my face" as the saying goes and not deal with someone that would be to my advantage to deal with most of the time. The world ain't perfect,I ain't
perfect and I don't expect some retail place to be perfect either. If you go around with a chip on your shoulder sooner or later someone is going to knock it off.

There's a certain gel pen I like. I noticed once at our local Walmart a package of four pens were priced higher than two packs of two.

People always assume the economy of scale is in effect and Walmart takes advantage of it.

The worst customer treatment experiences of my life were by Massey Ferguson and their dealers.

I no longer go near either.

Dean

I agree. I'm often surprised (but maybe shouldn't be anymore) by the time and energy some folks put into being negative. To me it just isn't worth it to always be down on everything - it achieves nothing and over time it just makes a person bitter about life in general. I'm sure we all know people who always view the glass as being half empty instead of getting the most from the half that is filled. They're not the ones who I find to be the most pleasant to be around. Life's too short to dwell on the bad experiences (which, after all, are just part of life for all of us) when there are plenty of good things happening around us to focus on and enjoy.

I have three.
Tractor Supply. Refused to honor warranty on some boots.

Home Depot. Accused me of shop lifting table saw blades. I was wearing a work T shirt and work pants. Don't know where I would have put them.

Discount Tire. Bought four tires for my truck. Two blew out on the highway less than three thousand miles on them. They said it was my fault.

I posted about an article I had read in the newspaper concerning Round-up causing cancer, this was several weeks ago. I referred to Round-up as a brush killer and got reprimanded for that indiscretion. Others will correct you for the slightest mistake, even if it isn't the topic of the post. Ellis

Billy, I agree on the Discount Tire stores. I used to buy tires from them for years. Then it got to where they always refused to do repairs. Always some excuse, nail too close to the sidewall (lie), been run flat (lie).

Why not be truthful, there is no commission to be made on a free repair!

The final straw was standing in line listening to a sales person tell an elderly lady with a mini van that her factory wheels were "rolling time bombs that can break and send her to a fiery death"! That she needed to buy these new aluminum wheels that were on special today only.

I finally got her attention and shook my head no at her. She told him no on the wheels, just put the tires on.

The maddest I've ever gotten in a store was Montgomery Wards. Gave a girl a ride to buy a gallon of paint for the college off-campus apartment she was renting. She paid by check, about $15. Clerk took her driver's license and went to the back to get it okay'd. We waited for over a 1/2 hour - I finally asked what was the delay - they said they were having trouble getting through to the out-of-state bank. After another 15 minutes I told them to keep the paint and give us back the check and license, but they refused. I started shouting and made enough of a scene about making us wait an hour for a stupid can of cheap paint that they gave up (or maybe the bank finally did call back). Obviously never went back to that store.

My bad experience was with a new Fastenal store in Front Royal, went there twice, both times they acted like they didn't want or need my business. The clerk acted put out to look something up and then the price they quoted was more than double what I was able to get the same product from a different store. I said screw you, and was happy to notice that they quietly closed the store last month.

I have to go to Walmart monthly to fill my Crestor prescription. Always cost me $125. a month until meet my part D deductible, then about 25 a mo.. Last summer it went generic and cost 2.23/mo. You can pay at the pharmacy or at check out counter if you did more shopping, which I did last month. Nine PM the night after I was there some SOB from W Mart calls and said I didn't pay the $2.23 for my pills. Told him I put my stuff on the belt and the girl bagged and charged me, I did my part. He said those checkers miss that medicine all the time, you should point it out to them, Told him maybe the time he spent harassing me would be better spent on teaching his flunky employees what was expected of them. Jerk tells me to come in the next day with my receipt or my 2.23. Next morning I called pharmacy, told the girl the story, she asked who I talked to , said I don't know but can tell you he was a frikin jerk if that helps, asked her if she could tell for sure if it got rang up and she said it didn't it didn't the checkers are always missing that. She was nice and said just pay it next time your out this way. What chaps my azz is I payed $125. many, many months for that stuff and they screwed up for $2.23 and the firkin jerk acted like I stole a 60 inch big screen tv.

I once worked with a guy, always negative. One time the BOSS said of that guy,"He's real even tempered, always mad!"

If the bad experience was with the products you might as well find a place and curl up and die. Everything it junk today. The only problem we've had with Walmart is walmart.com. Between my wife and I we've ordered something four times and the immediately charge our credit card and 86 the order. Then you have to fight with them to get a refund so no more walmart.com for us. You would think the money Walmart has they could get a competent company to set up their online business.

Hello Stephen Newell,

I have had zero problems with Wall Mart for the last 35 plus years and still counting. Do not miss shopping there yet! Maybe if they were the only place I could get air to breath I would go there

Guido.

I don't know what I do wrong but I go to WalMart all the time and have no problems. Sure some stuff is junk but it is my choice to buy it or not. Best bread in the country for $1 a loaf. Our store down town will run up to 50 percent higher on simple things like breakfast cereal. Dairy items etc , very little difference. But, the real sticker is that I can't buy half the things I need here in town that WalMart has on hand. I have heard some complain that their blue jeans are poor quality. Well, if you look up simple Wrangler jeans you will find over 30 different versions in that brand. Have to look at the style numbers. Yet, 30, I looked it up on the internet so it has to be true.

Wally world competes with mom and pop hardware and grocery stores.

Both of which... pay their employees nothing and have no benefits. People expect wallyworld to be sears and robuck.. but its not.. its the competes with dollar general, and other low end stores.

Its not a in the gold business, or selling 50k trucks, and they live off a profit margin that is among the lowest in the world.

I see lots of folks saying how its not this, or not that.. He!! yes.. is NOT.. it competes with your local grocery store and hardware and yet pays its employees more, delivers lower prices, and sells the exact same groceries and Chinese crapola that everyone else sells. If you not happy with getting it cheaper, more convenient, more selection, better stock, better hours, and better paid employees, better hours and donating back to the local community, you need to have your delusions fixed.

In all the little towns, how many mom and pops donate back? How many have reasonable hours for working people, or have what you need in stock? And small store prices??

Dont even get me talking about fishing gear, as no local will come anywhere close. And 15w40 tractor oil, they still kick butt. Our local hardware store is open 9 to 5, mon -friday only... meaning they are totally useless for working folks to use. Time to move on down the road to wallyworld, get in fast, get out fast. save a ton of money, same stuff..

If you got a bug up your behind and cant get along with wally world, you really have more problems to worry about. And no.. they are not an engine overhaul place and dont pretend to be.. They replace wiper blades, tires, batteries and oil changes. And compared to quicklube places, wallyworld auto folks have been there for 5 to 10 years or more and have more than 5 minutes experience on changing oil. And no, they dont hire rocket scientist, but the same local folks as working in the local hardware and grocery stores.

Went to Augusta Ga Lowes to pick up 16 sheets of drywall today. Payed for it and asked for help loading it.

45 minutes later female clerk, that checked me out, had to help me. Said "couldn't find anyone to help".

And corporate announced layoffs coming.

I swear Walmart must have a formal policy that states, "If our checkout lines have fewer than seven people waiting in each line, we will shut down enough lines to assure the wait goes up to at least seven."

I have not been to Wal-Mart since 2009. It is a 70 mile drive to get to Wal-Mart. There prices are not that much better. And you have to walk a mile to find what you want.

The last time I was at Wal-Mart. One item I was looking for was tape. Took forever to find any. Then it was only .40 cheaper than my mom and pop store. Was even the same brand and size.

I drive past walmart every day. I refuse to go in. Mostly because I haven't had a hepatitis shot.

Shop wal Mart for groceries all the time. food Lion right across the road. prices there are higher and selection not as good.
Registers at my Wal Mart are well staffed. Many Wal Mart products are the same you buy anywhere else.

After avoiding shopping the Great Wall of China Mart for many years, I
used the pharmacy there because they take my insurance. And
Ended up spending over $100.00 on other things , also noticed they
where flying the American flag outside , the reason I stopped shopping
At the Great Wall of China mart was because almost everything in store
was Made in China , when was the last time someone asked for one
of those Made in China can opener or pots and pans flatware ect.
because they were made so good ?

Well this is just me. The wally marts there are maybe 10 of them in the SJ area. Have never had any problems in the standard or super stores. Don't know guys. Now with businesses, i had work done on my Expedition about a year ago and the place that did it majorly screwed up something that didn't show up for about 30k miles. I am half temoted to take this clown to small claims. Was a 400 dollar repair. I need to take some pictures and make a couple of phone calls before I post the whole story. There are shisters all over.

I like when these posts come up . I try to avoid the monster corporate stores simply because I'd rather see local businesses survive . That being said sometimes it's a necessity wether or not mom n pop are open or they don't stock certain things . The only place I can buy twine locally is tractor supply . Wal-Mart makes my stomach turn .

Not discounting what you say but my experience with Walmart automotive is you have to keep your eye on what they do or it will be wrong. There is a problem every time i go there but an oil changd is $30 cheaper and while i know how to do it i just don't have a good place. Had my oil changed there last week. Always get a certain brand of synthetic oil and filter, not their bulk items. This time I ask they do not add washer fluid aside use a certain product in the winter. Look out and see the fella fill it up. Told the counter person and next thing I know my wipers are on and they are spraying out a full tank of fluid. The time before they used conventional oil and the wrong filter.

My point is these are the same employees every time. Not a lot of turnover. And always someone else there with a similiar issue. Yes I keep going. But at what point does management acknowledge they have a serious problem?

People like you keep coming back. That is why they don't change. No reason to change. If people keep coming in despite all their screw ups.Things will
never change. They start loosing customers things will improve. People amaze me. They want things done cheap then complain about the service.

I had the same thing in generator service. Most of my service calls were because people never ran them enough. Heard the same old line. I am saving it
for a power failure. I would tell them. No you are saving it for a big repair bill.

The funny thing is. The other two tires went well past the mileage rating. That was four years ago never been back. I found a mom and pop shop up the road. Call them set up a time. Come in they are waiting. In and out in less than thirty minutes most time. They back what they sell.

Mine is nearly every store in Clovis, NM. It seems no matter what I go to town for none of the stores have it even though the web page says they do. I can go to the same store in Lubbock, Texas and they will have it. So needless to say I drive the extra 40 miles to get what I want.

All I can say is you must not go to any stores then as that is all there is, no place else to go. I do have other groceries that I go to. And do have tire stores to go to but for general merchandise they are about it.

jm,
Thanks for proving my point about all the HATERS ON YT. I hope you are only joking, LOL.

The rules for posting on YT:

Posting Guidelines

These forums are for tractor-related topics.
Treat each other with courtesy and respect.

I think there are a lot of anger management issues where some don't treat otherS with courtesy and respect. I call them BULLIES and HATERS.

George, I think the anonymity and lack of accountability of posting on the internet brings out the worst in a lot of people. Before there was a such place for cowards to express their points of view without consequences, ugly attitudes were mainly expressed while driving, through vandalism, and occasionally by shouting out from the protection of a mob. I'm sure that a few individuals who post ugly content would be willing to say the same thing in person, but I'll bet that over 95% wouldn't dare.

I like it.installed correctly it has a long life.sounds good when it rains too.available in any color. I'm building a small cottage and metal roof is more $ then shingles but will take less time installing. It will outlast me and hopefully my son too

Kevin, hope you realize your spending money shopping while waiting on the pharmacy was an intentional act of manipulation!

They admitted several years ago to intentionally delaying service times at the pharmacy just for that purpose!

Hello Gary from Mukeshoe,

Don't feel sorry for me I do very well with out Wally Mart!. My money spends well wherever I go. I certainly have no problem buying anything I need or want,

Guido.

(quoted from post at 04:50:50 01/29/17) Aldi's is often my first stop for groceries. Last week a gallon of 2% milk was $1.64.

We've started to get more and more stuff from our local Aldi. New, bigger, brighter store than they used to have in town and great prices. The folks there get you checked out fast and on your way.

Mr. Geo-TH,IN has a good point about the haters here. However I have a question that I hope someone will answer because I don't get baffled often, but I am baffled by the attitude toward Walmart and other large national stores here.

I completely understand disliking one store if you had a bad experience with that store, but I do not get hating any whole chain.

I have heard a few guys say that like to buy "local" but I call BS on that argument. Who works in those stores? Your friends, neighbors, and when the aircraft industry was slow my oldest daughter worked in Walmart for a couple of years. So the dollars go to employ local people and mostly stay in your area. I just do not understand what else is gong on?

I don't get it either. I could see if you were the owner of a store that got pushed out. But for me, I was used to getting screwed over by Mom and Pops selling the same thing Walmart/Lowes/whomever was selling, but at substantially higher prices. When I had a chance to get the same item at a lower price, I jumped at it. I could pay $18.00 for a 4 foot long 3/4" piece of pipe at our local hardware or $4.50 at Lowes. What would you do? I'm all for supporting local people, but Walmart was paying the same wage with more hours as our Mom and Pop. I don't "like" Walmart, but I don't hate them either. It's just another option for me.

Hellok W_B,

The Aldi here was pretty small, I don't go there now. We have savealot? Not sure about the spelling. Sure
get a lont of good food and at good price,

Guido.

As long as someone has mentioned tires, I thought someone might profit from this: when buying tires, ask to see the date code on each of the tires. Some outfits will have some old tires around that are close the age where the sidewalls start to crack. If the date codes are more than 6 months to a year old, ask for newer ones. And think about going somewhere else next time.

It's funny how many people (even those of us too young to experience it) bemoan and long for the old time General Store with it's wide variety of items when Wal-Mart is just a bigger version, just maybe not as quaint or friendly
