Storm question?

How can they name the storm Gabrielle when it isn't even a tropical storm yet? They are calling it sub tropical which I have never heard before.

The media sensationalizes everything now ( IE.. they MAKE the news.

If it clouds up or the wind blows, they name it and start storm 'prepairedness' stuff..

They name both sub tropical and tropical storms when they reach wind speeds of about 40mph.

A sub tropical storm is not really a tropical storm. Has differant characteristics with the way it forms or grows.

I really can not answer your question with all the facts because I am not a weather man; but I bet if you look up Suptropical storm; Or Suptropical cyclone; in the dictionary you will find the answer you are looking for.

If you only knew how we are watching the storm in western NC, hoping for some rain. The pastures and hay fields are dead.

Yep,they need the ammo to say "see,see,we told you global warming would kill us all".
