Strange 8N Starter Question

Greetings. I have an interesting question... The 8N starts fine except when it gets very hot. Then the starter does not engage, but just spins. Let her cool down and it starts fine. No grinding...it just spins. Any ideas from anyone?
Thanks in Advance.

My bet is you still have 6 volts. 6V always starts lame when the engine is hot.
Suggest you do the "clean, bright and tight" deal on all your battery cables. Take em off one at a time - Both cables both ends mind you and wire brush them before reassembly. Loosen and pull the starter back about 1/2" too and wire brush between the starter and block.
Whether 6 or 12V it will give you optimum connections and is cheap to do.

Thanks Ultradog. We'll give that a try first. I suspect that the drive is not bad becasue it performs well when cold. And you are right - it's 6 volts.

Thanks again

Starter shaft/bendix needs to be clean and bright.

If you have a bad tranny seal, or something, slinging oil on it, well, just a thought....

Won't be the first time I have been wrong.

Actually it may be your starter bushings....
