Strange sprouting corn on the cob

Bought some corn from a local farmer, very good corn. Very sweet. Never seen these green sprouts on any ears before. Anyone else?

If I remember right, the corn mutated & tried to tassel there. You can also get cobs growing up by the tassels. Believe they are considered hermaphroditic.

Yes, I've seen that, didn't know what it was, broke them off and ate it. So far, I'm still alive.

It is fairly common, you can also find tassels that form kernels. When I worked at Pioneer Hi-bred as a kid, we called the latter tassel corn. No idea what your version would be called.
