Strange Super A Gas Problem

Hi all happy new years.

Have a strange problem. Super A the gas does not seem to flow. Had a problem starting, went through everything and got to gas but is strange. If take sediment bowl off gas flows fine from the tank. If tighten bowl up then just get a drip at a time. I loosed the bowl up and turn gas on it flows fine, tighten it up and down to a drip. Let tractor sit for the night with gas on, give it choke and it will start up, play with the choke some and run for a min then stop. Tried taking the gas cap off in case some kind of air problem but no difference. Haven't seen this before has me stumped. Tractor always ran great, a couple of turns and away it went. I have been using it mainly to plow my driveway in winter for about 6 years, bought the tractor from my dad.

Anybody have any ideas?

I use to be a poster here but has been 5 years maybe now. After my father passed away at 86 I kind of stopped playing with tractors much, or his old tractors. have a different email address so cant get my old user name back. My dad did buy a SA from somebody that posts on here and I bought some weights. This might even be the tractor, he bought a couple of SA. Am in Eastern Ontario.

Sounds to me like your problem is in the carb or the fuel line. Take the line off at the carb and see if gas flows freely. If so the maybe something caught in the float. I think there is a drain plug in the
carb and you can take that out too and see if gas flows. Give it a few minutes before stopping.

Sounds like air vapor lock. Loosen the
sediment bowl and let the fuel flow until
it fills the bowl and maybe 5 seconds
after. That will allow the fuel to get
past the float valve in the carb. Happens
to me from time to time. It is messy but
will evaporate quickly. If not get some
Tupperware and catch the excess fuel that
drips out.

This is normal for a sediment bowl. If the carb is full no more fuel is needed and the needle is closed. The air in the glass bowl builds enough pressure to keep any fuel from running in. As soon as the float drops fuel will run into the glass bowl. This is not a problem, I think you have a blockage further down the line. You may have a filter screen clogged at the carb fuel intake fitting or rust under the float needle. To trouble shoot take the plug out of the bottom of the carb. You should have gas flow out after the bowl empties. 1/2 pint in a minute or so.

Physics say 2 fluids can not be in the same place at the same time. In your case due to the float bowl needle being close then air which is a sort of fluid is in the sediment bowl so fuel cannot enter. Now if you where to take the carb drain plug out of the carb then the sediment bowl will fill or if you start the tractor it will fill simple as that and simple physics

The screen at the carb can sure be the issue. I have seen it many times. I have also seen trash sitting just above the seat in the bowl. (that carb had no screen in the fitting at the carb. Jim

Remove the line from. Carb and check if you have full fuel flowing of the
line , like 6 beers worth. And you could crack line at carb if you are worried
about sediment bowl filling even though it’s not nesessary. Just start the
tractor.

One more crazy test. Try with the gas cap off the tank. If for some reason it is not letting air into the tank gas will not flow properly.

mine do that too. I figure with the carb full and the needle and seat closed gas has nowhere to flow to. If you want the bowl to fill just open the carb drain or crack the fuel at the carb.
