If you find yourself lucky enough to be the first puller in a class, and you know that you can re-do your pull if you want, what strategy do you use for your first pull? Do you look for something on the track? Do you run full or part throttle? Do you bugger it up on purpose to mess with other pullers? Do you try a different gear? Are you trying to figure out your tractor, or the track, or the sled?

I get up close and personal with the track prior to my classes, and watch how the others do, in the classes before mine. Generaly the track isn't going to change much from one class to the next. At our local club I volunter to be the flagman until my class is getting close.

I always try to make my first pull as if I don"t get a second chance and IF I see a place for improvement wether it be track position gear selection then and only then will I rehook. I hate it when you see a tractor rebook in same gear and go same place on track you knows he"s just doing it to pull more and quite frankly it just eats up time and fuel

moving weight should not be permissible and we only allow that if we have to reset the sled . then you can move weight .

Pull like it's any other pull and if you see room for improvement turn it down, make some changes, and give it another shot!

With all due respect that the dumbest rule I've ever heard. If someone misjudges the track and wants to move weights when they come back around nobody should stop them. It's not like it's cheating or anything, everyone can see him moving his weights....

gun it and run it....

I usually try a higher gear if i'm pulling first; if i'm not satisfied i will rack down a gear and maybe try a different part of the track.

dblair, what is the purpose of declining your first pull if not for a weight change or anything else you did wrong that the other pullers have the distinct advantage of watching you first and changing theirs? That just don't make sense. Why have the opportunity in the first place then?
