Stripped threads on P/S pump

Stupid me stripped the threads on the return port of my Power Steering pump on my '76 Ford 4100. Is there any way to repair this? The fitting seems to be a part of the reservoir, so I don't think I can replace it without replacing the entire thing. Someone please help me. :)

I'm kind of wondering how it would turn out if I got a long nut and welded it onto the stripped threads and then got a different fitting that would fit in the nut... Thoughts?

I guess it all depends on how picky you are about appearance. The line to the reservoir is the return line (under very little pressure). You could cut a few inches off the line, bore the stripped fitting and insert a piece of the line you cut off, solder or braze it in place. Then connect the lines with a section of matching fuel hose and some clamps.

Great idea! I like that. I'm not terribly concerned with the looks. I'm more concerned with non-leaky usable tractor. :)

Apparently I'm not good at brazing. I tried 3 times and gave up. I cleaned everything up really good and put some J.B. Weld on it. Hopefully that will hold. :-\

maybe you could put a helicoil in it, chuck

I thought about that. I found a site from which I can get a replacement reservoir for about 11 bucks, so if the JB weld doesn't work, I'll just get that.

I wish some of you guys lived closer. I need some help! My dad died when I was 9 and my step-dad was not very mechanical. I need an old guy to teach me this stuff. :p

Well we did it! The J.B. Weld is holding nicely. No leaks after about 5 hours of bush hogging this weekend. Thanks for the advice, guys!
