has anybody on here heard of somebody stroking a 172? im thinking about stroking mine out to a 4 in stroke which would make it 200 cu in and i think put me close to 60 hp im just wondering if its been done before and how it worked out ie actual hp and any unexpected problems and where to buy new piston rods any input apprieciated

I guess the simple awnser is yes an inch of stroke can be added to a 172. In fact I know of one that has 2" of stroke added. Realize that you will need the crank from a diesel engine, because the gas crankshaft is cast, the diesel is forged steel. As with any stroked combination, rods and pistons will need to change. I have a combination worked out to add 1.060 stroke to mine. If you would like to discuss my e-mail is open. You don't have to stroke it to get more that 60hp.

I have not, but I have heard of the things that pullers do and some are quite elaborate. The easiest is to find a 192 industrial engine and bolt it in.

Just anything can be done if one has enough time and/or money, but some things are just not cost effective.

As RB says, it would be easier and less expensive to find a 192 CI industrial engine and bolt it in. A good gasoline 192 will produce around 60 HP at the PTO, while using LOTS of gasoline doing so.

I have a very low hour 192 CI natural gas engine, converted to gasoline that I plan to install in my 64 4000 S-O-S. The extra point and a half of compression (approximately) should translate into nearly 70 PTO HP.
